Apprenticeship

The United Association has the first nationally registered joint apprenticeship program in the United States---60 years and growing! Our apprenticeship program has one goal---to ensure every job done by our members is Done Once. Done Right.

All apprentices receive instruction in basic math and blueprint reading, with health and safety emphasized throughout the program.

Apprentice wages are based on a percentage of the journeyman rate, and is spelled out in each apprentice agreement. Other benefits include health care insurance, UA Pension and college credits toward degree programs at some Rhode Island colleges and through the UA International Training and Education Program.

[4/7/2008] - APPLICATIONS FOR 2009 WILL AVAILABLE AT LOCAL 51 FOR APPRENTICESHIP TRAINING IN MARCH 2009 FOR A TWO WEEK PERIOD.  CALL THE UNION HALL AT 943-3033 LATE FEBRUARY 2009 FOR INFORMATION REGARDING THE APPLICATIONS. more

Apprenticeship Contest 2008
[2/25/2008] - The Apprenticeship Contest was held on June 12, 13 and 14, 2008 at Local 51.  Apprentices competed in pipe welding, HVAC, plumbing and pipefitting and were judged by industry and training representatives with Ryan Smith of Local 51 as the pipe welding winner. more

Local 51 Training Classes
[10/31/2006] - Local 51 offers a variety of training classes for journeymen and apprentices.  All of these classes are required by a Local 51 before an apprentice may become a jouneyman.  Click on the above headline for the complete list of classes being offered.  For a more information, visit the training center. link
