Local 51 Brings Home the "Hardware" - (7/1/2013)
Congratulations to Local 51's Softball Team for a 2nd place finish in the UA Softball Tournament held in Cincinnati, Ohio.
A special thanks to Coach Dave Marland and Al Charron who helped put this team together and raised money for the trip to Cincinnati. The entire trip was self-funded by members of the team.
After a 14 hour car ride, Local 51 defeated Tampa Local 123 by a score of 17-5. Local 51 then lost a nail biter to Louisville Local 502, score 16-15. Local 51 then went on a 5 game winning streak. Local 51 then defeated Kentucky Local 669 (score 22-4), defeated Cincinnati Local 669 (score 17-4), defeated St. Louis Local 562 (score 15-3), defeated Boston Local 537 (score 15-12), and defeated Charleston Local 625 (score 21-3).
Local 51 then took on Louisville Local 502, once again, this time in the finals. Local 51 fell just short losing by a score of 9-7. It was noted by Tournament Officials that this was the first time in 30 years that a team that had not been involved in the tournament for over 10 years had come in and done so well.
Local 51 was lead by Ben Libby with a .690 batting average for the tournament. John Amore lead all home run hitters with 5. Anthony Dupree contributed with 4 home runs of his own.
