Local 51 continues to encourage job growth in the construction industry, ensuring job security for our working families.  The Governor’s tour of the Claiborne Pell Elementary School in Newport successfully highlighted the importance of modernizing Rhode Island schools and creating jobs.

The Governor's proposal looks to increase Rhode Island’s school construction by appropriating 90 million this year followed by an 80 million appropriation thereafter.  An addition, The Governor is seeking an additional financial mechanism to help communities gain access to capital through a Capital Fund, seeded with $20 million from the proposed debt restructuring.

"We need to put people back to work, and our children need modern schools, so we're making it a priority to invest in school construction. These investments will help spark an economic recovery and strengthen our state now and in the long term." By Governor Gina Raimondo
