Important Dates:
March 20, 2026: Math test information will be emailed to all applicants by 3/20/2026.
April 6-10, 2026: Math Evaluations (Applicants who score below 70 will not continue to the interview)
April 10, 2026: Required documents and completed applications must be submitted in the portal by 4/10/2026.

Q: I cannot find the link to access the application portal.

Q: What happens if I paid the application fee but did not create an application in the portal?
- You will not be approved to move forward with the application process. All applications were required to be created and saved in the portal by March 14, 2026. Email applications@ua51training.org to let us know.
Q: What happens if I created an application in the portal but did not pay the application fee?
Q: I have submitted my application, when will it be processed?
- We will be processing submitted applications starting March 16, 2026. Please keep an eye on your inbox for communication from Local 51.
Q: My application was rejected, what do I do?
- Rejections are mainly to notify you that part of your application was incomplete, you are missing a document or we need a clearer picture submitted into the portal.
- Please read the rejection message and update your application as requested and re-submit.
- You will have until May 1, 2026 to resolve any issues with your application.
Q: What are the applicant requirements to be accepted into the Local 51 apprenticeship program?
- All applicants must pay the $51 application fee by March 13, 2026.
- All applicants must submit their application in the portal by March 14, 2026.
- All applicants must score a 70 or above on the Math Evaluation
- All applicants must provide a valid Driver's License
- All applicants must be 18 years of age by September 2026
- All applicants must have graduated high school or have GED by June 2026
- All applicants must pass required Drug Test
Q: What documents are required to be submitted?
- A profile picture (Passport/driver’s license style photo of yourself)
- A copy of your valid driver's license
- A copy of your birth certificate
- Transcripts: High school or GED unofficial transcripts
- Diploma: High school diploma/ or GED diploma (Applicants pending graduation June 2026 may submit a letter from their high school detailing their enrollment and expected graduation date)
Q: What happens if I do not have my required documents uploaded and application submitted in the portal by the deadline of April 10, 2026?
- Your application will be rejected and you will not move forward with the application process.
- If you are waiting on a required document to be mailed to you, please notify us prior to the deadline at applications@ua51training.org.
Q: What else can I submit with my required application documents?
Applicants who would like to boost their application, may upload additional documents. We regularly receive the following optional documents:
- Resume
- Trade School Transcripts
- Trade School Graduation Certificate
- College Transcripts
- College Graduation Diploma
- Certifications: OSHA, NFPA, EPA, CPR, First Aid, etc..
- Additional Training: Rhode Island Makers Certificate, Building Futures Certificate, Pre-Apprenticeship Certificate
Q: How do I submit my documents?
- You may log back into your account in the portal at any time. Your documents can be uploaded on the My Documents page. You can access it by using the menu on the left side of the window.
- Acceptable file formats: .JPG, .JPEG, .PNG, .JFIF, .PDF, .DOCX, .DOC
- After selecting your files, you must click the green upload documents button to save them into your account.
- All required documents must be submitted by April 10, 2026.
- You may submit any additional documents into the portal until May 1, 2026.
Q: I am still in high school, what do I need to submit for high school transcripts?
- A copy of your transcripts up to current date. We will need an updated copy after graduation if you are accepted.
- A letter from your high school stating that you are on track to graduate. The letter may be uploaded in the Proof of Graduation section of the documents page.
Q: I am currently taking a GED course. It will be finished by June 2026. What do I need to submit?
- A copy of your GED transcripts up to current date. Finalized GED transcripts upon course completion.
Q: I do not have a copy of my high school diploma.
Q: I graduated college, do I still need to submit my high school transcripts?
- Yes, high school transcripts are required. Your high school/school district will send copies of your transcripts if requested. We do not need official copies. All transcripts must have a graduation date listed. Your college transcripts may be uploaded in the Optional Documents section as an application booster.
Q: I am a veteran, what do I need to submit for verification?
- Military ID & Orders

Q: I am not a United States Citizen, what documentation do I need to submit?
- Work visa

Q: When will I find out the date and time for my Math Evaluation?
- Math Evaluation information will be emailed to all applicants by March 20, 2026. Please check your inbox regularly for communication from Local 51.
- Tests are scheduled for the week of April 6-10, 2026.
- We do no re-schedule test dates or times. The test date and time you receive is the only slot available.
Q: Are there study materials for the Math Evaluation? What is on the test?
The exam will consist of basic fifth to eighth grade math. You will be tested on reading a ruler, adding, subtracting, multiplying/dividing fractions and decimals. Calculators are not allowed. You must obtain at least a 70 on the Math Evaluation in order to continue to an Interview.
Q: I failed the Math Evaluation. What is next?
- You are invited to apply again next year. You will not have to pay the application fee again.
Q: I have already passed the Math Evaluation. What is next?
- Interview information will be emailed by April 17, 2026 to reapply applicants who scored a 70 or above in a prior year. Please check your inbox regularly for communication from Local 51.
- Interviews are scheduled for the week of May 11-15, 2026.
- We do no re-schedule interview dates or times. The date and time you receive is the only slot available.
